The Endless Blue
A hardy and largely solemn race, dwarves thrive on worlds considered inhospitable to most others and possess some of the most advanced technology in the galaxy. They disdain the direct use of magic but stoop to use it as a power source. Dwarves reproduce slowly, and supplement their numbers with constructs, some of which have achieved high enough sentience that their creators consider them independent and free beings with all accorded rights, such as the crystalline shardminds and mighty warforged. The dwarves are insular and suspicious of other races, refusing to share their technology, but are technically allied with the civilizations of The Fey and Humanity. They hate The Legion especially and have provided the most violent opposition to them.
From birth, dwarves graft armor and machinery directly into their bodies, considered mature only when they have full armor; they feel little pain, and can recover from even the most extreme of injuries with enough time. They take great pride in their craftsmanship, and most of their society is built around work cohorts and guilds that compete with each other. They don’t have names among their own people, only numbers and ranks or titles, though those that interact often with other races will sometimes accept nicknames. Natural mathematicians, numbers and patterns are very important to their culture, and certain numbers often carry great significance. They harvest precious minerals and gems from their worlds and asteroid belts to fuel their industry, but take their mining slowly on an almost geological scale, allowing for the renewal of resources over millenia.
